Draw Me Closer to You, Lord

Draw me closer to You, Lord.

That was my prayer this morning (one of many prayers). And when I was saying those words I wondered if it was such a good idea. You know, kind of like praying for patience. Lol.

I read the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan last year and it really opened my eyes to how we pray. There is one point he made that I replay in my mind over and over on a regular basis. Chan points out that we all tend to pray for safety or comfort in our life. But what if NOT having our prayers answered the way we want or NOT reaching our destination safely would actually bring God more glory?

That’s a scary thought!

That being said, I am still guilty of praying for safety for me and my family. I prayed non- stop last week while I was traveling to Africa. I prayed about the 6 plane rides, the 3 deadly snakes that live there, the GIGANTIC lizard (haha) that shared my room, spiders, Ebola….you name it and my constant prayer was for God to keep me and the others safe.

Thankfully, He did. But what if He hadn’t? What if walking through a trial or not having all of our prayers for safety and good health would bring God the most glory? What if walking through a trial was how He chose to answer my prayer to draw me closer?

I have learned from experience that the times I have felt the closest to God was during a difficult season in mine and Rob’s life. Probably because I am so desperate I seek Him on a whole different level during those times. I don’t want it to be that way, it just is. I should be desperate for Him every day, every hour, every minute.

I have several things that are heavy on my heart right now and I have no idea what the outcome will be. However, I know He does and I trust that He is complete control.

Draw me closer to You, Lord.
