Dear God, Could You Send me a “Kevin”…Please?

It was the big kick off for the new fall season of youth group, and it felt so funny not having Caleb there. We had just gotten him settled at Liberty for his first year of college two weeks earlier. It was a huge adjustment for our entire family. Caleb struggled to embrace college life and all the many changes that brings and at home, I desperately missed his presence and all the laughter he adds to my otherwise routine days.

Tears streamed down my face as I listened to Will Witkovsky, our prospective new youth pastor, share his heart that night. He was talking about so many issues that I knew Caleb needed to hear….I took notes when I wasn’t blowing my nose or catching the tears rolling down my cheeks so I could share them with Caleb later.

He told us he had accepted Christ as a young child, but that his faith never felt real to him. However, when he was seventeen a friend named Kevin invited him to attend youth group one night. Reluctant at first, he decided to go. As he listened to the other guys share things they were struggling with, he realized he wasn’t alone. It was at that point his relationship with the Lord took on a whole new meaning.

He also shared that he wasn’t sure where he would be if it wasn’t for Kevin. After that night I began praying for God to bring a ” Kevin” into Caleb’s life. Someone who would befriend him and fill the void that he was experiencing , someone who loved God and would hold him accountable, someone who would be a source of encouragement for Caleb …someone he could do life with.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being at the Liberty Barnes and Noble for a book signing. Shortly after I arrived Caleb walked into the bookstore with a buddy. He told me they had been lifting weights together the last few weeks and hanging out on the weekends. Needless to say, I was thrilled to know he had made a new friend, but I almost fell out in the floor when he introduced him as ” Kevin” . Turns out Kevin lives right across the hall from Caleb.

God is able to do so much more than we can ever imagine! He blows my mind!
