Mission statement. A formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.
I would say almost every company, church, and organization has a mission statement of some kind. Over the years I have read many and honestly, given little thought to most of them. They all sound so similar to me; each one’s main objective is to gain your faith and trust in their particular business, product or service.
However, last night at the Pregnancy Help Center banquet the key note speaker referenced a mission statement that caused me to perk up. It was Satan’s mission statement, and it is actually in the Bible.
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;” I have never looked at that verse as being a “mission statement”, but I guess it really is. That is definitely his main purpose and he has become increasingly successful at accomplishing his goal…with flying colors!
I think most of us have heard that verse countless times, but like, Victoria, we often leave off the end. This morning I decided to look the scripture up and realized that it ended with another mission statement… of a completely different kind. It is God’s mission statement. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Wow!! How amazing is that??? One verse, two mission statements.
Think about it…mission statements are designed to let people know what they can expect to get from you or your company. It defines your goals, your values…who you really are. We make decisions to give certain companies our business based on how they represent themselves and whether they truly live by their mission statement.
So, if we give such thought to the organizations and businesses we choose to work with, don’t you think we should give the as much thought to the One we entrust “our life” to?
Just a thought…it’s really a no-brainer for me. What about you?
